Summary
Sculpture, marble, The Delphic Sibyl, by Rinaldo Rinaldi (1793-1873). Figure of a Woman stands left foot forward, right arm across her turning to her left, head tilted up. Wears dress off right shoulder, throng sandals, and a turban wound round her wavy hair. Holds scroll in left hand which rest on cassoulette with serpent twined round supports, the bowl decorated with signs of the Zodiac. Inscription on the pedestal reads: Joys we shall have/ that blossomed in the shade/ And Griefs that out of sweetest dreams/Awoke.

Provenance: Stafford House. Formerly in the Duke of Sutherland's London residence, shown in Joseph Nash's watercolour, Grand Hall and Staircase at Stafford House (1805).
