Summary
Marble sculpture, Dancing Boy and Girl by Giovanni Bastianini (Florence 1830 - Florence 1868). Marble on circular base. Each with vine leaf circlet in their hair and other leaves scattered on the base. Her right hand and his left are raised and the hands joined, while they clasp each other behind with the other. She stands on her left leg, the right extending behind her, her head sweeping back over her right shoulder. He bends his right leg while raising his half bent left one and looks down, his head framed by his raised arms. Inscription reads 'ULTIMA OPERA IN MARMO DI GIO. BASTIANINI 1868'
Provenance
Bostrom - The original version which may be the one at Cliveden,was described at length in a review published in1858 and was puchased for 1000 francs by Signor Wonviller of Paris. Sue Forein, Le Tour de babel paris 1868, 13-21 Bostrom in Apollo Aug '91
