Summary
A set of four blue Delft circular tiles mounted horizontally on a metal covered frame, each tile depicting a biblical scene. Left to right - St Matthew visited by an Angel; Christ before Pilate, Matthew 26 - 56, cracked; Christ brought before Simeon, Luke 2 - 25; Christ walking on the water, Matthew 14 - 24.
Provenance
Originally from the mansion on the Apthorp Site, Broadway 78th and 79th Street, New York. Presented to the National Trust, with the house and grounds, by Waldorf, 2nd Viscount Astor (1879-1952) in 1942.
