Summary
One of a series of newspaper cuttings - miscellaneous items of interest to the family. A newspaper cutting from THE TIMES WEDNESDAY JUNE 8 1938 Page 16. A full page with photographs entitled: BRADBOURNE AND THE EAST MALLING RESEARCH STATION Main picture top right: BRADBOURNE HOUSE. ----An exterior view of Bradbourne House, Larkfield, Kent. It adjoins the East Malling fruit research station, and a letter concerning its preservation and use in connexion with the station appears on page 8. Picture top left: THE STABLES of Bradbourne House. They flank the house on the north side and are a large and good range of buildings. The estate of 200 acres surrounds a house of singular beauty. Picture bottom left: A CORRIDOR of Bradbourne House seen from the white bedroom. Bradbourne has been the home of one of the oldest Kentish families for nearly 300 years and came on the market on the death of Sir John Twisdon, the twelfth and last baronet. Centre pictures left and right: THE MAIN ENTRANCE and the beautiful doorway of the Great Hall of Bradbourne. The present house, one of the best examples of Queen Anne brickwork, was built in 1713, but there remains much Tudor work from the original house. Picture bottom right: THE TITHE BARN at Bradbourne which in the East Malling Station scheme it is proposed to adapt as a conference hall. An appeal for the sum to complete the purchase of Bradbourne for preservation and scientific use is included in the letter mentioned above.
