Summary
One of a series of newspaper cuttings - miscellaneous items of interest to the family. A newspaper cutting from THE TIMES THURSDAY AUGUST 17 1933 Article caption: PICTURES BEFORE THE CINEMA A TRAVELLING PANORAMA FROM A CORRESPONDENT There were moving pictures before the cinema came, as we who have attained a certain age can remember. The name of this entertainment was the panorama, and the last years of its dignified history overlapped those first madly flickering experiments that were to lead to Hollywood. It is true that the moving pictures of our early years moved all of a piece, being mounted on large twin rollers. When "A Street in Yokohama" has been described by the eloquent lecturer it departed majestically and side ways to music, towing "The Yosemite Valley" into position by its leading edge. Or sometimes a more elaborate set scene, perhaps "Sunrise over Niagara Falls," would be uncovered. ..............................................
