Summary
One of a series of newspaper cuttings - miscellaneous items of interest to the family. A newspaper cutting from THE TIMES JULY 9, 1930 Article caption: TOO MUCH SPORT A CANADIAN VIEW TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES Sir,-------" A Frigidaire has been installed at Wimbledon to keep the balls at an even temperature, in order that they may bounce more evenly." This announcement in your Sporting News aroused a train of thought difficult to express in moderation. As a Canadian, now resident for some years in England, and having seen something of the world, I submit that this country is sports crazy. At a time when national affairs are in a parlously unstable condition; when trade is dwindling; when nigh 2,0000,000 workers are out of work; when the dole system is breeding a generation that expects, as its right, to subsist without work; when this country occupies the commercial ring with its hands tied behind its back, a mark for the foreigner, grunting under blows it cannot return, it is naturally of extreme importance that balls should bounce evenly. ................................................ I am, Sir, your obedient servant, ALAN SULLIVAN. Sheerland House, Pluckley, Kent.
Provenance
