Summary

From time to time, we have given a tabulation of the prices of various issues as quoted on the Sheffield Stock Exchange at different dates. We note that "a considered review on the iron and steel market from a well known Sheffield brokers," appears in a London investment publication. Taking an investment of £5,000 in iron and steel shares at the prices ruling in 1920, it is shown that in the middle of May last there had been a depreciation of about £3,300, or two-thirds the original value. To be precise, a hundred shares each of 21 selected issues cost £5,016 5s., while in May the same list could have been purchased for £1,719 1s. 3d.
