Summary
One of a series of newspaper cuttings - miscellaneous items of interest to the family. Newspaper cutting headed £140 A YEAR By ONE WHO EARNS IT. There is a great and increasing shortage of elementary schoolmasters. Especially is this noticeable in rural areas, where in many cases it is impossible to get men to reside. I am a village schoolmaster. For five years I was a pupil teacher. After winning a "King's Scholarship" I proceeded to a training college for two years and obtained my certificate. Seven years in preparation! In addition to my certificate I hold extra qualifications in music, physical drill, physiography, physiology, hygiene, science in common life, gardening, and first aid. This is a very modest list compared with what many elementary schoolmasters hold. As extra subjects come into favour the local education committee expect one to qualify. ..................................
