Summary
One of a series of six mainly whole pages from newspapers. Subject: 'The Chesterfield Canal'. A whole page of newspaper from the "Worksop Guardian" dated 'Friday, 18th April, 1960'. Pages 9 and 10. 'Historical Notes by John Atkinson *The Chesterfield Canal PART II IN August 1773, Henshall produced his first report there was a faulty brickwork in the Tunnel, and excessive brick production since they already had enough "to answer the demand for that commodity until mid-summer next." The next month Varley started to get his desserts, being required to explain waste, and in January, 1774, Henshall revealed that a contract had been let at far too high a price, the contractor being Varley's brother, as it had so often been in the past. ...'
