One of a series of six mainly whole pages from newspapers. Subject: 'The Chesterfield Canal'. A whole page of newspaper from the "Worksop Guardian" dated 'Friday, 11th April, 1960'. Pages 13 and 14. 'Historical Notes by John Atkinson *The Chesterfield Canal PART I It is perhaps appropriate, before going into the history of the canal, to remind oneself that the canal ran for 45 miles from the River Trent at West Stockwith, near Gainsborough, to Retford, Worksop (where is the present head of navigation), and thence across the hills to Chesterfield, but boring through those hills short of the summit in the famous Norwood Tunnel, those dropping down on the Westerly escarpment to Ches- terfield itself. ...'
