Summary
1 of 128 Newspaper Cuttings; Subject - Windmills (plus a few watermills and a dovecote). A newspaper cutting of a picture of a windmill from THE TIMES FRIDAY AUGUST 31 1951. Caption above; RESTORING OLD MILL VILLAGE LINK WITH JOHN BUNYAN FROM A CORRESPONDENT As part of its Festival of Britain celebrations, Bedfordshire County Council is restoring the magnificent eighteen-century post mill at Steventon, and it is hoped to have an official opening ceremony in October. The mill is notable because it possesses old-fashioned sails or sweeps which can be furled or unfurled, instead of the shutters usually seen on windmills. The restoration of the mill has been chosen partly because of the close association of the village of Steventon with John Bunyan, whose memory the county council has already honoured in this festival year by restoring and reopening the Moot Hall at Elstow, the village which was his birthplace in 1628. ........
