Summary
1 of 128 Newspaper Cuttings; Subject - Windmills (plus a few watermills and a dovecote). A newspaper cutting of a picture of a windmill from THE NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST, THURSDAY APRIL 16, 1959. Caption above; Big bill for fans Written below: The friends of the North Leverton Windmill met at Retford last night to discuss how they could raise money towards the £2,358 estimate for repairs to keep the mill, one of the oldest in the country, still working. Notts. County Council, who had promised to consider a grant, had reached no decision yet. A great deal depended, said Mr. R.F. Evans, secretary, on what the Friends raised as to the size of the grant. The meeting decided to appeal to all interested in the mill--built in 1813, and one of the few still working--to help them to keep it operating. A committee was appointed to consider other ways of raising funds. The treasurer, Mr. F.P. Stirland, said that he would welcome donations.
