Summary
1 of 128 Newspaper Cuttings; Subject - Windmills (plus a few watermills and a dovecote). A newspaper cutting taken from THE NOTTINGHAM EVENING POST, FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1956' newspaper page 11. The page has a large black and white photograph of a windmill. Caption above: Object of Interest for Country Lovers at the Week-end. Caption underneath; Cat and Fiddle Mill - Reminiscent of the old post windmills that were once a familiar sight on the Forest just over 100 years ago, the one pictured above is a typical example of a mill use din those bygone days, and may be found just inside Derbyshire, only about 12 miles from Nottingham, writes G.G.S., Further caption underneath: One of the Very Few in Existence Locally; In perfect working order it is looked after by the lady at the farmhouse near by, and the cost of its upkeep is defrayed by the management of Stanton Ironworks in the valley below. It is said to be the only working windmill in the county. As you can see, the sails of the mill are being turned into the wind. You will notice too , that the mill is in two sections, the upper part resting and turning on an extremely strong oak post which is housed in the little building below. There are not many of these buildings left, especially in such good condition, and it makes an easy Saturday afternoon or Sunday ride for the cyclist from Nottingham who something interesting t see near home. The piece goes on to talk about 'The Abbey Ruins at Dale' ................................................
