Summary
One of a series of newspaper cuttings. 'Lawrence of Arabia - D. H. Lawrence'. Numbers 18/1 - 18/7. A single cutting from the 'EVENING POST AND NEWS', dated 'WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1963"' On the front, at the top, is written in pencil: 'after all, a rather nasty piece of work!'. 'The time little Majorie Leivers met D. H. Lawrence After a trip abroad, D. H. Lawrence was on a return visit to Eastwood. One of the natives (a man named Leivers who loved the town) greeted him cheerily and asked him if he was enjoying the return to his old home. The writer swore viciously and poured out a torrent of abuse which shocked Mr. Leivers and left the little girl who was holding his hand - his daughter - wide-eyed. The little girl is now the mother of two teenage children and as Mrs. Marjorie Jacobs, lives with her family a 196 Bilborough-road, Bil- borough. Mrs. Jacobs told me : "Lawrence hated Eastwood. He told my father : 'You have never been anywhere or seen anything. How do you know what places are like outside East- wood?'.
