An article published in an unspecified local paper concerning the Major Oak. The date of publication is not known. There is a photograph of the tree above the article. 'THE MAJOR OAK' 'This Whitsuntide the Major Oak, the Queen of Sherwood Forest will be visited by hundreds of people. The Major Oak is one of the most famous trees in England, and is so called after Major Rooke a noted antiquary, who resided in the neighbourhood, a hundred and twenty years ago, and took a great interest in Sherwood. At one time it was known in breed of game cocks, and the Major's hollow trunk was their roosting place. Some years ....'
