Summary
The Gent's black felt bowler hat, makers label 'Dunn and Co. Ltd' embossed in the leather inner band, above is hand written 'W. Straw' in black ink. On the opposite side of the leather band embossed 'Self - Conforming'. The hat band is padded with four pieces of newspaper, three of which are folded within each other. On the inside of the hat dome is a glued on makers label in creamy gold. The whole is set within a circular border made of two bands interconnected with a repeat triangle, the inner of which has a dot within the triangle shape. This is broken at each side with a sold decorative scroll shape and at the top a further circle carrying the initials 'D&Co'. in a stylised form. Beneath this within the main circle is printed; Dunn & Co. Ltd Hat Makers, Piccadilly Circus, 373, Strand, London & Provinces.'. Underneath this and outside of the circle is 'BRITISH MANUFACTURE' and 'PAT. NOS.4992/11.28843/11.'.

Straw collection bequeathed to the National Trust on the death in 1990 of William Straw.

Leather hat band.: G.A Dunn & CoLTD Self - Conforming Embossed writing highlighted in gold printed on opposite sides of the hat. Above the name Dunn & Co handwritten in black ink W. STRAW.
