Caption
Womens's clothing in particular changed very quickly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Thanks to changes such as women's liberation, aniline dyes (the first synthetic dyes, which increased the colours available for clothes from 1856) and the introduction of ‘prêt-à-porter’ clothing, clothing sold ‘off the rack’ with a view to getting it tailored to fit properly.
Summary
Ladies three piece set dating to around the 1920's believed to have belonged to Florence Straw (nee Winks). The set comprises of a pleated skirt, a sailor top and waistcoat.
