The family had all grown up by the time they moved to Blyth Grove, the brothers had served in the First World War and returned. Walter had followed his father into the family business and William had gone on to teach in London. As such there are no traditional children’s toys or games in the collection but one member of the family did enjoy lawn bowls. The bowls carry the initials ‘W.S’ which would suggest they belonged to either William Sr or William Jr, as Walter’s initials are W.W.S, an easy way to tell the brothers apart. We have several photographs in the collection with handwritten labels 'Worksop Bowling Club' with William Sr in the group again suggesting this was one of his past times. It would have been classed as a gentile past time to take part in, for both men and women in the early 1900’s, with several places to play in Worksop which still exist today.
Summary
Brown leather bowling bag containing a pair of bowling balls, inlaid and inscribed with 'W.S', a pair of brown leather bowling slippers and a brown leather belt.
