Summary
One of nine boxes of 'BRYANT and MAY ENGLAND'S GLORY MATCHES', inside paper package (BLG/MISC/563.1). The box consists of an outer sleeve, an inner tray and a series of matches. Outer sleeve; Pale grey card with a white exterior finish made into a sleeve, open on the two shorter edges. The top of the sleeve has an oblong design of red, white and blue in the centre leaving a white border. A single blue line outlines the central design, with blue corners containing a white stylised 'fir tree' design in each. An ellipse design sits in the centre printed in blue on a white background with steam ship motif on open waters above it 'BRYANT & MAY' beneath it 'ENGLAND'. The ellipse is held with a stylised claw on each side containing the words 'TRADE' and 'MARK'. The surrounding area is printed red with 'ENGLAND'S' in white above the oval on the red ground and 'GLORY' beneath. The bottom of the sleeve is printed in blue with a single line oblong border containing the text; 'Caution! Be sure your brain is engaged before you put your mouth into gear. Rediscovered by Mr. D. Wilson, Durham 6. On one narrow edge again printed in blue; 'BRITISH MADE AVERAGE CONTENTS 48 KEEP IN A DRY PLACE AND AWAY FROM CHILDREN' in the centre of which is a blue scroll with the brand name in white 'BRYANT & MAY'. On the opposite narrow side a strike plate in a beige sand. Inner tray; Made of pale grey card with a white outer finish, consisting of a base four sides and an open top.
