Brown paper packet of 'COLMANS SEMOLINA J.and J.COLMAN NORWICH', with a blue and red image of a girl in a field with a windmill in the distance, war time recipes on rear, empty. Brown paper packet with blue and red printed design to the front and recipes on the back. The front has a line drawing of a lady stood in a corn field with bonnet on a windy day, windmill in background over her right shoulder. '1LB. NET' in a blue band above and 'J.&J.COLMAN, NORWICH' beneath. The blue bands stretch all way around the packet and the image of the field extends onto the sides. On the bottom in red 'COLMAN'S SEMONLINA' in red then stamped in black 'LU11'. On the back in blue; 'WAR-TIME RECIPES. MILK PUDDING. 2 tablespoons Colman's Semolina. 1 dessertspoon sugar. 1 pint milk (fresh or household). Flavouring if liked. Heat the milk. Shake the Semolina into it, stir briskly with a wooden spoon, and boil for three minutes. Add sugar and flavouring if liked. put into a pie dish and finish off by browning in the oven or under the grill. One fresh or dried egg will improve the flavour and food value. If household milk is used, add a small piece of margarine ad 1/4 teaspoon salt. BLANC-MANGE. To make a blanc-mange use the above recipe with the addition of one more tablespoonful of Semolina. BAKEWELL TART. 2 oz. Colman's Semolina. 3 oz. Colman's Self-Rising Flour. 3 oz. margarine. 3 oz. sugar. 1/2 oz. dried egg. 1/2 gill milk or water. 1/2 teaspoon almond essence. 1 teaspoon jam. Short Pastry. Line a flat tin or plate with short pastry, Spread the jam over this. Make up mixture as follows :- Cream sugar and margarine together. Beat in dried egg (dry). Stir in the Semolina and flour alternately with the milk. add the almond essence and spread mixture over the jam. Bake in a moderate oven 30 minutes. Semolina can be used for thickening soups and savoury sauces. R'.
