Summary
Sherds - 197. A group of 8 grooved sherds, from a larger grouping belonging to one vessel, a necked jar with roughly-trimmed bead lip, wide girth grooves and a high shoulder. The fabric is a hard-fired grey ware known to have been produced in the area north of Swindon. It is a blue-grey with very fine sand and grey iron inclusions creating speckled surfaces. The latter may have had a dark grey slip but the vessel was probaly overfired. From the excavations of 1954 latrine area ( CH F 54 ). All marked '197' only.
