Summary
Niche - 142. Carved limestone niche with shell canopy. This possibly once held a metal figurine. Found on the 'Capitol' site, 170 yards north west of villa, SP 05121358. Thought to have been a shrine or mausoleum but destroyed in 1888-9 when railway constructed. See 1976 Guide (R Goodburn) Plate 10.2 Also P.S.A.S. VI, 1868 - mentioned by Mr Farrer.
