Summary
Victory Medal posthumously awarded to Henry Colt Arthur Hoare (1888-1917). Brass medal showing a Winged Victory with arm raised; 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION' impressed on the reverse. 'CAPT.H.C.A.HOARE.' is impressed on the lower edge of the medal.
Provenance
Awarded posthumously by the War Office to Henry Colt Arthur Hoare, Captain in the Dorset Yeomanry, who was killed in action in the First World War, December 1917. Addressed to Alda, Lady Hoare, at Stourhead. Given to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
