Summary
A set of 25 whole plate glass negatives, Rural Scenery of Stourhead, after Francis Nicholson (Pickering 1753 – London 1844), circa 1913. The original watercolour, now in the British Museum (1944,1014.125), is from an album described in the posthumous catalogue of Sir Richard Colt Hoare’s library as: ‘Rural Scenery of Stourhead, consisting of 33 Magnificent Drawings, by P. [sic] Nicholson. Atlas size, bound in whole Russia. A most Splendid Volume.’ The album was sold at Sotheby’s, 16 July 1913, Lot 242, purchased by Walter Vernon Daniell, when these photographs were probably taken. With two associated cardboard boxes, Ilford Limited, Ilford, London, for Soft Gradation Panchromatic negatives.
