Summary
Painting, watercolour and bodycolour and ink on paper, armorial bearings of the Michell of Chitterne family, early 19th century. The painting on front shows a chevron and seven dragons heads (green/white) on an escutcheon and a helm with an arm in mail grasping a sword, on the reverse, handwritten, Michell of Chitterne. Arms. Argent of Cherveron purpure between seven Dragon's Heads 4 in Chief and 3 in Base couped and erect Vert in the mouth of each a Cross-Crosslet fichee Gules. Crest. A Cubit Arm in Mail the hand grasping a Sword proper pomel and hilt Sable from the blade flames of Fire issuante also proper.

Bequeathed to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
