Summary
Painting, watercolour and bodycolour and ink on paper, armorial bearings of the Topp of Stockton family, early 19th century. The painting on front shows a clasped gauntlet in the upper right corner of an escutcheon and a helm of gauntlet holding a left hand, on the reverse, handwritten, Topp of Stockton. Arms. Argent on a Canton Gules a Gauntlet clasped proper. Crest. A Gauntlet grasping a sinister hand couped at the Wrist proper guttee de sang.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
