Summary
Painting, watercolour and bodycolour and ink on paper, armorial bearings of Herbert, Earl of Pembroke and Montgomery, early 19th century. The painting on front shows three lions (white/red/blue) on an escutcheon and a helm of a wyvern, on the reverse, handwritten, Herbert Earl of Pembroke and Montgomery. Arms. Per pale Azure and Gules three Lions rampant Argent. Crest. A Wyvern Vert ducally gorged Or in the Mouth a Sinister hand Gules.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
