Sculpture, bronze, Greyhound, French School, Louis XVI period. One of a pair of bronze figures of reclining greyhounds, on shaped bases hung with laurel festoons.
Provenance
One of the pair (NT731854.1) is pictured in the oil painting of Sir Richard Hoare, 1st Bt (1734/5 - 1785) by Samuel Woodforde, RA (Ansford 1763 - Ferrara 1817), circa 1770 (NT732218). Bequeathed to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
