Summary
One object from the contents of a now missing envelope marked '[?] of Circumstance', photocopy of a letter to Sir Henry(1865 - 1947) and Alda (1861 - 1947) Lady Hoare from Thomas Hardy (1840 - 1928). Max Gate, Dorchester. 'May 5, 1917. Dear Sir Henry and Lady Hoare, I was glad to receive your very kind letters in response to what really gave me little very trouble. I too hope that your son may come back safe and sound. What an experience he will have had altogether. My wife had just come back rom London where she has gathered all sorts of opinions on the progress of the war; but I don't find that the people who [?] to have exclusive information on particular points know much more than others. Please excuse this brief note, & believe me Sincerely yours, Th. Hardy.
