Summary
Black chalk heightened with white, on paper, Peter Richard Hoare (1772–1849) by Stephen Catterson Smith the elder (Skipton 1806 – Dublin 1872). Three-quarter-length portrait of a man seated, and turned to the left. Inscribed by Colt Hoare: Peter Richd.Hoare Esqr. 1829. Brother of Sir Richard Colt Hoare, of Kelsey Park, Beckenham. Fifth and youngest son of Sir Richard Hoare, 1st Bt, of Barn Elms (1735-1787) and the fourth son of his second marriage, to Frances Acland. Married Arabella, daughter of James Greene of Turton Tower, Lancashire (d.1865, aged 83) and lived at Kelsey Park, Beckenham, until his inheritance of Turton Manor and Clayton Hall, Lancashire, through his wife.They had four sons and five daughters. The eldest son, also Peter Richard, inherited Luscombe from his uncle, Charles Hoare (d.1851), which then descended in this line of the family.
