Summary
Bistre, on paper, Angel from Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple (after Raphael) by John James Rouby (Plymouth 1750- Rome 1812). Circular. The detail is from a fresco in the Stanza di Eliodoro, Vatican Museum, Rome. The event is taken from the Old Testament (Book of Maccabees, 2, III, 23-29). Heliodorus was sent by King Seleucus to steal the treasure from the Temple of Jerusalem. In response to the prayers of the High Priest Onias, three angels came to his aid, preventing the despoiling of the holy precinct.
