Summary

Grey wash on paper, The Hostages, by Theophile Alexandre Steinlen (Lausanne 1859 – Paris 1923).Signed and dated, bottom left: Steinlen 1914. Inscribed, bottom right: epreuve d'artiste. On the back is a Leicester Gallery label. Presumably like the other Steinlen drawings bought by Lady Hoare in 1914.
