Summary
Figure, hard paste biscuit porcelain, Euterpe, probably Locré & Russinger's Factory (active 1772 -1820), Paris, France, circa 1800. From a Classical mythology series. Euterpe is modelled standing holding sheet music in one hand with a lute at her feet, on a circular pedestal impressed 'EUTERPE'. Base incised 'Rem' (Remez). The model is based on one sculpted by Simon-Louis Boizot (Paris 1743 – Paris 1809) for Sèvres in 1786.
Provenance
Listed in the ‘Inventory of Heirlooms at Stourhead directed to be taken by the Will of the late Sir Richard Colt Hoare Bart.’, 1838, in the China Cupboard, as one of ‘Seventeen small ornamental French China Figures.’ Bequeathed by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947), 1946.
