Summary
Matchbox and cover, stoneware with dark blue jasper dip and white applied relief decoration, Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, circa 1860-1880, the design attributed to William Hackwood, circa 1773. The cover depicts Ulysses staying the Chariot of Victory, by which enterprise the defeat and capture of Troy was hastened, with a border of roses and medallions, the underside ridged for striking matches. The box depicts other classical scenes. [check marks]
