Summary
A gilt-metal mounted ebony, burr-elm and marquetry ladies writing desk or bonheur du jour, English, circa 1880. In the Louis XVI style, the upper section with a pair of cupboards, each with pierced brass gallery and a door applied with a painted oval boss and inlaid with ribbon-tied swags between projecting columns, flanking an arched mirror with similar boss and two small drawers underneath, the lower section with fold-out tooled leather writing surface above two frieze drawers with floral marquetry detail, raised on stop-fluted tapering legs joined by shaped stretchers with a central urn finial and on turned feet with ceramic castors.
