Summary
Pastel on paper, Colonel John Penruddock (1619-1655). Inscribed on back 'Col. Penruddock beheaded in the reign of King Charles First'. Thomas Mompesson and Penruddock were together in the rising against Cromwell in 1655 when Penruddock lost his head at Exeter but Mompesson escaped. Penruddock's seat is Compton Chamberlayne, Nr Salisbury.
