Caption
In 1937 the artist Jane De Clehn was commissioned to draw portraits of Sir Charles Chute and his wife Joan to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. Sir Charles died in 1956 and left The Vyne to the National Trust.
Summary
Red and black chalk drawing heightened with white on paper, Sir Charles Chute 1st Bt (1879-1956) by Jane Emmet De Glehn (1873-1961), signed and dated, bottom left: Jane de Glehn 1937. A head-and-shoulders portrait to left of Sir Charles, wearing a suit. Charles Chute was created a baronet in 1952. He married Laura, daughter of Reverend Robert Baker in 1912. There were no children of the marriage.
