A watercolour portrait of Captain James White Worsley Pennyman (1792-1870), by Mary Ellen Best, dated 1838. As a young man, three quarter length seated at a desk, wearing brown coat, black stock, brown and green striped waistcoat and wearing spectacles. In his right hand he holds a pair of callipers over an architectural plan. Watercolour on paper in a birds eye maple frame.
