Summary
One of a pair of early 19th century mezzotints by W Ward after Morland. Both with groups of children playing (7 in (a) and 8 and a dog in (b) in rural settings with a building close by. In (a) a child brings some bellows from the portal (right) over which the date 1690 is inscribed, to move the boat (centre). In (b) the blindfolded girl (centre) is teased by children with a stick and a dog all around. In matching carved and gessoed gilt frames with broken verre eglomise glasses. Torn, creased and very dirty.

Pennyman collection devised in October 1961 to The National Trust under the terms of Col. J.B.W. Pennyman's will.
