Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, An Unknown Man in a Blue Coat perhaps Sir William Pennyman, 7th Bt. (1764-1852), British (English) School, c.1830. Rectangular. Three-quarter-length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, seated in a chair covered with pink damask by a table, holding papers. Wearing a dark blue coat with gilt buttons, black velvet collar, pale waistcoat, light blue neckcloth. Pale grey eyes, curly brown-grey hair, pink face, aged 50-60. Ink pot and quill on table to left, blue curtain background. Initials and date in top left hand corner, AR 1834 (Could this stand for Abraham Raimbach (1776-1843)? DH.) . Inscription on secondary support card: buttons shoulders book breeches.

Pennyman collection devised in October 1961 to The National Trust under the terms of Col. J.B.W. Pennyman's will.
