Summary
A large wrought Iron key with cylindrical shaft, two-pronged skeleton mechanism with simple oval handle, with modern rope cord. This key has been used to open the oak doors of the main castle entrance within living memory, and possibly from as early as 1830 when the doors were installed by John Fuller (1757-1834) the then owner of Bodiam Castle. The date for the doors is given in: Bodiam Castle Sussex, A Historical & Descriptive Survey by The Marquis Curzon of Kedleston, K.G., 1926, p123. The lock was replaced in 2015.
