Summary
Coloured drawing, One of a series of sixteen full-length male/female figures illustrating civil/military costume dating from 1386-1643, by Miss Bessie C. Walters, 1937- 1938. (9) Knight in chain armour (cross of St. George (?) on tunic) with sword and shield bearing the cross (of St. George (?) in his right hand. (10)Lady in cloak and long robe embroidered with bird pattern, the cloak having large crosses (of St. George?) on it, and wearing snood type headdress (11) Knight in full plated-armour leaning right hand on sword. (12) lady in winged headdress and full-length robe with overskirt lifted in right hand. (13) Peasant in short tunic with cowl headdress and short stick in left hand. (14) Bearded man in full-length robe with headdress, jewelled belt and picot edged floor- length sleeves (15) Archer in short tunic with bow and arrow (16) Man in fur-edged full-length robe with slashed sleeves and hat (17) Bearded man in doublet and hose with elaborately sleeved short over- jacket carrying glove in right hand and short dagger in left hand. (18) Man in doublet and hose with overskirt carrying pikestaff over right shoulder and feathered hat (19) Long-haired man in short tunic with wide-topped boots and sword visible behind him (20) Lady with ringletted hair and full-sleeved, full-skirted gown (21) Lady in Tudor headdress and fitted overdress with broad fur sleeves and patterned under-dress (22) Man in short-skirted over-dress with bird of prey on left wrist and tasselled bag in right hand (23) Man in black tall-crowned, wide-brimmed hat, buckled shoes and dark over-cloak (Puritan style). (24) Peasant lady with wide-brimmed/tall-crowned black hat and over dress, with buckled shoes and stripe-edged under skirt.
