Summary
A small narrow sewing box with metal filigree sides and a black velvet padded lid. Inside are three paper packets of needles and a silver thimble. Two of the packets are produced by John James and Sons, one contains twenty size three needles; the other eight size five needles. The remaining packet contains 'Oasaloid' needles and is produced by 'The Crescent Manufacturing Co.' Also in the box are two loose haberdasher's pins and a large needle. Total number of items is 37.
Marks and inscriptions
On the reverse of the needle packet beneath flap: 'Ask for these Needles.// for Smoothness Easy Working// and Rust Resisting.// SIZE 18/24// THE CRESCENT// MANUFACTURING Co// REDDITCH.// MADE IN ENGLAND' On the back of the needle packet: 'JOHN JAMES/ AND SONS,/ REDDITCH./ CELEBRATED/ ENGLISH MAKE/ SHARPS./ PATENTED.'
