Summary
A lady's woven straw sun hat with a deep crown, possibly purchased on the Continent during a 'Grand Tour'. The sides of the crown and a band on the middle of the brim are made from very closely woven straw sewn together in overlapping strips. The remainder of the brim and the top of the crown are made of twisted straw or twine, forming an openwork pattern decorated with flat blades of wide straw. A length of silk thread covered wire is attached to the underside of the brim.
