Summary
A khaki First World War Queen Mary's Auxilary Ambulance Corps dress. The dress has two epaulettes on the shoulders with the initials 'Q.M.A.A.C' sewn into them and a red stripe. They fasten to the dress with a brown leather covered button with an impressed coat of arms. Inside the collar band is a detachable cream cotton collar fastened to the dress with a small white button. The numbers '1445' and '14 and a half' are printed on the collar. The dress is short in length due to a lady wearing the gaiters with it. The right sleeve has a blue chevron sergeant stripe. The left sleeve has a red triangle sewn on to it. (The red triangle possibly originally sewn to the left sleeve is inside the left pocket.) The cuffs are fastened with brown buttons and the right cuff is worn, possibly moth damage. The dress fastens at the front with six brown buttons with impressed coats of arms. The top button is smaller than the others. A belt is across the waist fastened with two brown buttons at each side of a removable middle section. On the skirt are two pockets fastened with the brown buttons. The inside of the dress has been mended with patches, one of which has a safety pin attached. There is another safety pin at the collar. The dress has moth damage in several places. There is a rectangular badge for medals pinned on the right hand side of the dress. The badge appears to be a metal bar covered by multicoloured striped medal ribbon which in turn is covered by plastic. The badge may be later in date than the dress. There are two metal pins on the inside middle section of the belt.
