Summary
Panels 6 to 11 form a set, the dimensions are the same, and there are indications that they have all been in the same building - the remains of mortar on the leads is very similar, and the lead ties are all in the same positions indicating that they originally had 5 supporting bars. These panels date from the mid 16th century, probably English, and are a very important survival. Panel 8 has Royal arms as borne by Henry VIII. The upper right quartering and lower left quartering display lions in an abraded ruby flashed glass. Red and white roses, green foliage and grotesques surround the heraldic device.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following the death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to the National Trust in 1967.
