Summary
Marble, Napoleon I, Emperor of France (1769–1821) after a model by Antonio Canova (Possagno 1757 - Venice 1822). A Carrara marble bust of the Emperor Napoleon I, after a bust derived from the full-length colossal marble statue of Napoleon as Mars Pacificus by Antonio Canova (1803–1806; Apsley House, London). On a circular waisted socle and square base, inscribed NAPOLEON 1ST / CANOVA and 77 on rear. Mounted on a cylindrical granite pillar.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967.
