Summary
A rosewood veneered and ebony stand decorated with ormolu and brass inlay with a green malachite top, probably by the leading cabinet maker and dealer George Bullock c.1815. It supports a candle stand (SUD/F/67b) (converted for electricity) which is said to have been brought back by Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren from St. Petersburg, where he served as ambassador in 1802. The candlestand has three Egyptian-style sphinx-looking characters at the base, with a malachite cylindrical base with three rams heads in gilt supporting three Grecian classical figurines holding garlands of flowers in gilt supporting six candle stands in brass.
