Summary
A large ceramic brewers jar. Beige in colour from the base to the shoulder and a mid brown from the shoulder to the flared neck of the jar. The aperture in the neck has a 25mm (1 inch) diameter. There is no stopper. There is a chip in the neck and a rough patch of glaze on the shoulder caused by abutting another jar in the final firing process. There are also two small holes in the glaze and jar just below the neck where a handle was possibly fitted. There is a small oval makers stamp just under the neck which reads 'Pearson and co, Whittington Moor Potteries, Chesterfield' and another larger logo stamp for the purchasers which reads 'Bourne Brewery Co, Brewers, Wine and Spirit Merchants, Bourne, 2 Gall'. On the base of the jar is an older accession number which reads 'B220'. Previously there were also two others labels which read '220 Sudbury via Erddig' and 'Rosa Baker, but these have since been removed.
