Summary
One of seven bleu-du-roi (royal blue) and gilt stands for a Sevres surtout-du-table (table centre) of a boar hunt (see SUD/C/9 - 12). Mark indicates reign of Napoleon III (from 1852-1870). Presented to the 6th Lord Vernon by the French Government in recognition of his role as Chairman of the French Peasant Farmers' Seed Fund in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war 1870-71, helping to prevent famine.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967.
